Over at the Curry School of Education, a new building is in the works. It's Bavaro Hall, slated for completion in 2010 to the tune of $40 million. The building will house classrooms and offices, and will effectively double the space that the school inhabits today. It is named after Anthony Bavaro, a friend of Dan Meyers, the chair of the Curry Foundation.
It seems like it's going to be a relatively narrow building, as the foundation is sandwiched between the existing Ruffner Hall and Route 29, also known as Emmet Street. Right now it's a hole in the ground, but you can get some cool views if you walk through Ruffner's east exterior colonnade. The colonnade has been boarded up, but an intelligent individual had the foresight to cut windows in the makeshift wall. This helps combat darkness and claustrophia, but also provides excellent opportunities to view the action.
The Curry School is keeping an excellent blog about the construction of Bavaro Hall. (Note: images may take some time to load.) Also, make sure to check out the website of Robert A.M. Stern Architects for some neat renderings of the future building.
